Requirements for Licensing of Massage Therapist in Florida

Education

  • Completion of a Massage Therapy Program: Applicants must complete a minimum of 500 hours of massage therapy education from a school approved by the Florida Board of Massage Therapy. The curriculum must include, but is not limited to, basic massage theory and techniques, anatomy and physiology, kinesiology, and pathology.

Examination

  • Passing a Board-Approved Examination: Candidates must pass a national examination that the Board recognizes for licensure. The most commonly recognized exam is the Massage and Bodywork Licensing Examination (MBLEx) offered by the Federation of State Massage Therapy Boards (FSMTB).

Background Check

  • Criminal Background Check: Applicants must undergo a criminal background check as part of the licensing process.

Additional Requirements

  • CPR Certification: Applicants must have a current certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) at the professional level from an approved provider.
  • HIV/AIDS Education: Candidates must complete an approved course in HIV/AIDS education.
