Markforged 3D Printers

Markforged 3D printers produce strong, beautiful, functional parts that perform at a high level right out of the machine. They offer composite and metal printing systems that are safe, affordable and easy to use.

Their composite printers use FFF technology to print a base thermoplastic then reinforce them with continuous strands of chopped carbon fiber or Kevlar for stronger, stiffer parts. Their cloud-connected software Eiger makes it easy to manage and monitor prints with features like out-of-material detection and material usage tracking.

The Mark Two

The Mark Two 3D Printer delivers what many would expect from a desktop printer and more. It prints with continuous fiber reinforcement and allows engineers to print parts from Onyx reinforced with carbon fiber, HSHT fiberglass, or Kevlar for unparalleled strength, stiffness, and durability.

The 4.3-inch touchscreen makes it easy to evaluate and manage your prints with Eiger software. You can easily start or pause a job, change infill patterns, or add accessories to your printer. The software provides regular over-the-air updates and features like material usage tracking and out of material detection to help you monitor and control your costs.

The Mark Two comes in a clearly labelled box and requires a good amount of space for the modified air-tight Pelican case that holds the Nylon filament spool (Nylon is hydroscopic, meaning it can absorb moisture during printing). It also needs a large workspace to accommodate the bed which snaps into place with 10 micron accuracy.

The Onyx Series

For those who are looking to jump into composite 3D printing with a minimum investment, Markforged offers the Onyx Series. This single-extruder workhorse prints a blend of nylon and chopped carbon fibre for extremely strong, durable parts.

In addition to the standard plastics, it can also print in continuous carbon fibre, Kevlar, and HSHT fiberglass reinforcement. This creates incredible strength, and allows the Onyx to print functional prototypes that can be tested in context before moving to production.

The Onyx also features a built-in furnace that heats the parts to a point where they are sintered (melted) and solidified. This provides a much quicker turn around time for making parts, as it eliminates the need to send the part away for processing. In addition, this Markforged system uses an airtight Pelican case and a tube to keep the Onyx filament dry, which helps reduce moisture ingress into the printed parts. This helps to ensure consistent quality over thousands of hours of print time.

The Industrial Series

A real industrial printer needs to be able to handle the rigors of the factory environment. With this in mind Markforged created the Industrial Series which includes the X7, X5, and X3. These 3D printers use the Atomic Diffusion Additive Manufacturing (ADAM) process to print parts with high strength. This method uses metal powder bound together with waxy polymers, eliminating the safety risks and training associated with printing loose metallic materials.

These industrial printers also feature a more robust build plate made from machined aluminum and other hard materials. This enables the printing of a wider range of tough industrial materials like PEEK, PEKK, Polycarbonate, and ULTEM.

These strong industrial printers can make a wide variety of end-use functional parts on demand. From custom soft jaws for work-holding to alignment jigs for welding, these tools can dramatically reduce the need for traditional fabrication processes resulting in lower manufacturing costs and shorter lead times.

The Metal X

The Metal X is the most cost-effective way to get into metal 3D printing. With a base model at under $100,000 this printer is the best solution for industrial replacement parts, weldable prototypes and injection molds. Using Markforged’s unique range of printing materials, the Metal X can print strong, accurate and weldable parts that are 50x faster and 20x cheaper than traditional machined aluminum.

The printer uses an innovative Atomic Diffusion Additive Manufacturing process which prints a metal powder bound in a plastic matrix to eliminate safety risks. The printed parts are then washed and sintered to produce pure metal parts. The Metal X is capable of printing in a wide variety of metals including 17-4 stainless steel, Inconel 625, copper and tool steel.

All Markforged printers come with Eiger, an advanced cloud-based software that works straight from your browser allowing you to go from CAD drawing to printed part overnight. It optimizes CAD models for pressure points and orients them for maximum strength utilizing powerful routing and slicing intelligence. It also allows users to monitor the progress of their prints and start or stop them as needed without having to manually check on the machine.
